Apparently, our FPG was attacked during the last 12 hours or so. This morning when I went to it, the web browser page was simply filled with what appeared to be Chinese kanji characters, and nothing else. When I viewed the page in source mode, that is all I saw as well, just kanji.

In other words, I am not saying that there was a long entry in the guestbook kanji characters; I am saying that the entire web page was simply kanji. I couldn't even see the FPG banner that I made, or any guestbook entries, or links.

I checked the modification dates on all of the FPG files in my cgi-bin, and none of them showed that they had been altered in any way. They were all still in English, and all of the entries were still there in English as well. None of the configuration files had likewise been altered.

Well, I figured that I could take care of the problem simply by replacing the entire FPG folder with a backup copy, which I did. To my surprise, even after rebooting my server with the backup FPG folder installed, the problem STILL persisted. All I saw is a web page full of kanji.

After that, I replaced the entire FPG folder a second time, and rebooted the machine. It was then that the problem was finally resolved.

Anyway, I just wanted to give all FPG users a heads up, just in case you too have been attacked by this person. I don't know how they did, being as none of the files appeared to be altered.

I advise everyone to keep a daily backup of your entire FPG folder. You can either do it manually -- if you can remember -- or use some sort of script or backup program, but you definitely want to do it for your own peace of mind, and so that you don't lose those years of FPG entries. You never know when things like this might happen to you.
